A group of American International Club of Nerja members, partners and friends
MEMBERS of the American International Club of Nerja have been on their travels again. This time the destination was the Science Park (Parque de las Ciencias) situated in what proved to be a very cold Granada.
The facility is an interactive museum of over 70,000 square metres, 27,000 of which are outside green space, used to house a number of exhibition zones ''al fresco.' Located a few minutes journey out from the historic city centre the park offers one of the most varied cultural and scientific experiences available in the whole of Europe.
The recently added Macroscopio is a huge building, and the different exhibition areas it contains extend out from the large entrance hall. This is where the already well known Pavilion for a Journey through the Human Body is situated, offering a sometimes rather bizarre trip from the origin of life, all the way to the make up of the human anatomy.
Five more pavilions are housed within the structure and include the scientific legacy of al-Andalus, placed within your reach, and the Techno-Forum Pavilion providing a place for exhibiting new technologies, innovation and art.

American International Club’s end of year bash
• 20 Nov 2008 •Euro Weekly News
On November 22, the American International Club of Nerja will have a big bash to celebrate and kick-off the holiday season. We are incorporating a fun ‘raffle’ in the hope of generating money for local Spanish charities. So far, we have received some donations, such as dinner for two at local restaurants, weekend accommodation, original Duncan Door Stop, etc. Perhaps you have an item or you know of a business that might want to donate. If you do, please contact Arthur or Jean (information below). Thank you and hope to see you November 22! “The American International Club of Nerja is a philanthropic social club in the Axarquia region, which generates funds for local Spanish charities. Membership covers from Almuñecar to Torrox. Our membership is currently 40 members. Our end-of-year bash is the biggest fund-raising event of the year for us and will take place at Restaurante Pepe Rico, in Nerja. Please know that all contributions you make will positively impact on the local Spanish charities for 2009. During the year 2008, we donated 1,000 euros towards Spanish charities - our goal for 2009 is to double that amount. 627 168 943 or 952 53 8019 If it isn't fun, we don't do it!
The American International Club of Nerja (AICN) has rapidly grown from 38 members to 100 plus in just a few years. The Club's democratic procedures and motto may account for much of that: "If it isn't FUN, we don't do it!". Again this year, the American Club of Nerja will celebrate the unique American holiday of separation from Great Britain on July 4th, with a multi-cultural American-Spanish BBQ EXPLOSION on the Playazo Beach, Nerja. This American-Spanish celebration makes sense since the Spanish discovered Florida in the US... they are really as "American" as the Nina, Pinta and Sangria. So starting at 8pm guests enjoy two libations along with many Spanish delicacies and traditional American BBQ meats, side-dishes and dessert then the fun continues with live music, dancing, fireworks display and competition for Best Pirate Fancy Dress attending. As always - all are invited, dress up fancy if you choose and have fun on July 4th!
The American International Club is a social club serving Almunecar-Torrox that also raises funds for Spanish charities. Yearly, significant donations are given to charities to say “thank you” to Spain as host country. Members donated over 1,000 euros to Ciudad de los Niño’s, Taller de Amistad, A.N.A.B.E. and ANAC which supports the Nerja Cultural Centre. At Nerja's “Resident’s Day” members generated charity funds by selling coffee, cake, sangria and hand-made crafts.
The Club hosts regular cultural/scenic outings, petanque, walks, tapa tours, lunches, dinners, and informal coffee meetings for members.
The fast growing membership enjoys a great selection of activities.
For the July 4th “Explosion”, American Club member's price is 22.50 euros, 27.50 euros for guests. Those joining before July 4th benefit from club member's discount. For details of the many events throughout the year, plus the July 4th Explosion, and to make required reservations with exact location/driving directions, visit the club's web site at: www.americaninternationalclub.com/events,or call club president Arthur Knighton on 627 168 943.
