JUNE'S
Aventura toPena Escrita
Jean Lepkowski:
On Saturday, June 26th, 16 members or friends of the American Club had an adventurous day at Pena Escrita. Through the generosity of the Town Hall of Almunecar we were provided with a free bus and an extraordinary driver. The road to the top is windy and narrow and we were all glad someone else was doing the driving. Antonio drove us to the top of the park and we walked down stopping at the many animal areas on the way. When we reached the bottom he was there to transport us up to the restaurant where we had a very nice menu del dia. We saw lions, tigers. buffalo, hippopotamus, Basque ponies, bears, zebras and other animals and birds as well. It was a great day enjoyed by all who went. Click here to see photos

AGM MEETING SATURDAY OCTOBER 3RD
Our annual general meeting took take place on Saturday October 1 at the Lions Club in Nerja.
LETTER FROM CHRISTOPHER
Our separation from the previous organization was successful for our group; however, extremely stressful from the personal attacks from the other organization. My number one priority is that our fantastic group continues to thrive. At the end of this term I will be stepping down as President. I have had this role for 3 years now and it is my personal belief, that it is unhealthy for any organization to function under the same leadership for long periods of time thus preventing stagnation and allowing for change. This was the basic principle that made a group of us demand change four years ago. Growing up in Lubbock Texas we witnessed the cotton fields being planted with peanuts every two years... reason for this "crop rotation"... it produced better yields of cotton.
At the business meeting today, I shared that we must have our AGM meeting and election of officers close to the date we had the first meeting to separate. We are required to have this meeting close to the filing date. We filed our first meeting, September 26, 2009. We must have another meeting close to this date, record the minutes in Spanish and have it notarized. At the meeting today, we agreed that we would have our annual general meeting on Saturday October 3rd have hold election of officers. We also agreed to allow proxy votes. We plan to pass out ballots at the Oktoberfest gathering as well as send out on-line. We do not anticipate an issue with proxy votes since we all know the members exist! The list of officers running are as follows:
President: Peter Snyder
Vice-Pres: Jean Lepkowski
Secretary: Monna Moller
Treasurer: Monna Moller
Member Rep 1: Mike Patrick
Member Rep 2: Paula Mackey
Although I am not running for office, I would like to continue managing the website and continue relations with the press and media. Of course, I plan to be involved planning an event and getting other members involved in the process. Like with crop rotation, I would be happy to hold a position on the board in the future.
I truly believe we have developed a very nice group that has a commitment to generating funds for Spanish charities and have fun in the process. I remember when I became president, someone said, "Now YOU have all the power"... I cannot disagree with this statement more. The club President has no power but rather that person's job is to encourage and motivate others. The "power" is a membership, that is empowered and feel they are heard and can effect change within the organization.
